What is cancer and what causes cancer?

Cancer is a disease in which abnormal cells rapidly divide and spread throughout the body, forming tumors and damaging healthy tissue. Cancer can be caused by a variety of factors, including environmental, behavioral, genetic and hormonal influences. These can include exposure to radiation, smoking, alcohol consumption, a poor diet, a sedentary lifestyle and certain viruses or bacteria. Cancer is one of the leading causes of death worldwide, and there is currently no cure.
